Youth Concerto Classic

Dear Music Educators and Prospective Soloists:
nbsp;

The 2010-2011 season of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra is in the final planning stages, and we’re excited with our theme “C’est Magnifique!”

The Salute to Youth Concert is now known as the Youth Concerto Classic and will be held on April 29,2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cox Performing Arts Center on the campus of Dixie State College will showcase some of our area’s most outstanding young musicians.

We encourage instrumental musicians (string, percussion, brass, and wind students), ages 13-25, to make application and audition to become a featured soloist.
Please note the revised changes this year:

  1. Please choose music that is in the Southwest Symphony Orchestra/Dixie State College music libraries. Because of budget constraints, we are unable to purchase or rent music for this year’s concert. If soloists opt to use rented music rather than music in our library, they are required to pay the rental fee before the music can be ordered. Please contact Symphony Librarian Melissa Scott at
    melissascott@southwestsymphony.org for a list of available selections.
  2. Please make certain if you require piano accompaniment for your audition that you personally make arrangements. The Symphony will not provide an accompanist for you.
  3. Kindly bring the following items to the audition:

    $35 nonrefundable application fee;
    50-word biography;
    Color photo of yourself for insertion into the playbill;
    Self-addressed stamped envelope if you require the picture to be returned.

**Soloists that come without these required items will not be allowed to audition.
You may download an audition application here.

All musicians will be notified by email of the results of the final soloists selected.
Symphony rehearsals for the Youth Concerto Classic will be held in February and March. Soloists must be available when scheduled in order to polish their performances with the Symphony.

The deadline for applications is September 10, 2010. Auditions will take place on Sept. 13, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Eccles rehearsal room #150.

We look forward to an excellent audition experience.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 435.688.8183.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Lynn Scott
